Three Floyds Mikkeller Havregoop marks second joint effort
(Munster, IN) – Following a brief stint at the JD Wetherspoon International Beer Festival a couple weeks ago, Mikkel Borg Bjergsø from Mikkeller hopped on board another flight late last week, this time heading overseas back to Munster, Indiana. There he met met up with Nick Floyd and Co. from Three Floyds Brewing, and the pair worked on their second beer together, Havregoop. ‘Havre’ means ‘oat’ in Danish and ‘goop’ is, well, American.
This will be an oatwine like the first collaboration between the breweries, Hvedegoop, and FFF’s own Fantabulous Resplendence, its anniversary ale. Hvedegoop scored favorable reviews with beer people after its Dark Lord Day release. There is still some left at the brewery…aging in a barrel or two (likely that it is more for the locals’ enjoyment than anything that will see bottles- could be wrong). No word yet on production levels or possibility of distribution.
Additional notes: The next three beers in Three Floyds’ seasonal schedule are Broodoo (Mikkel said that this will be bottled early next week), Alpha Klaus next month, and Black Sun in December.
As for Mikkeller’s shipping schedule…five pallets each of Santa’s Little Helper, From To, and Not Just Another Wit have already shipped to the U.S. Mikkel mentions that Single Hop Simcoe IPA, It’s Alright!, and another batch of Draft Bear (5, 4, and 4 pallets respectively) will be all packed up and ready to ship sometime in November. [ed: That is a considerable amount of beer for a "gipsy" brewer!]
