Seven Danish breweries collaborate on new beer

(DENMARK) – Shaun Hill of Norrebro Bryghus passed this note along to me yesterday about a major beer project undertaken by Norrebro and six other Danish breweries. It reminds me of the Lost Abbey Isabelle Proximus collaboration between five U.S. breweries that took place last year. While it may never hit the U.S., Denmark’s growing beer scene can’t be ignored and this could be viewed as a milestone for the country’s brewers. Here is the scoop from Hill:

“Just wanted to give you a heads up that on this Thursday, 5pm, at Nørrebro Bryghus’ Brewpub, we are releasing SEVEN Russian Imperial Stout. A collaboration between: Myself, Peter Sonne (Olfabrikken/Nørrebro/Halsnæs) Rune Lindgreen (Bryggeriet Djævlebryg), Mikkel (Mikkeller), Mike Murphy (Gourmet), Jacob Storm (Amager Bryghus) and Christian Skovdal Andersen (Ølfabrikken/Beer Here). The beer was brewed together, by all of us, at Nørrebro, on October 17.

12% Abv. 95 Ibus. OG 29 Plato. 17 malts. 5 Hops. 5 sugars.

Each brewer contributed a recipe to me and I synthesized all 7 recipes into one massive beer – with each ingredient being recognized in the appropriate percentages. 1,000L of the beer were produced – and just 250 liters were kegged directly from the stainless. The other 750 Liters are aging in Bordeaux and port barrels – to be released several months from now in bottle and draft.”
