Southern Tier to release Mokah, a Jahva-Choklat hybrid

[5/12 Update: Was released late April/early May depending on location]

(Lakewood, NY) – Southern Tier Brewing has played mad scientist with two well-respected beers in its arsenal to form the latest release in the Blackwater Series. The result of mixing and mashing its two heavyweight stouts, Jah-va and Choklat, 50/50 is a new beer called Mokah. This was back in January but according to Head Brewer, Paul Cain, Mokah was on the schedule to be brewed to the tune of 160 bbl. That is equal to the output of two other recent releases, Oak-Aged IPA and Iniquity Black Ale, combined. There should be no shortage of this beer and bombers are priced the same as Jah-va.

Beer stats:
11% ABV, 2-row pale malt, 2-row barley
caramel, chocolate and black malt
roasted barley, barley flakes, Jamaican roasted coffee
bittersweet Belgian chocolate
Kettle hops: Chinook, Willamette, Cascade and Columbus

  1. Any idea on a release date for this? At my local beer store they had the same info, but no word on a release date.

  2. I would guess it will be later this spring. Their recent label approvals have only come a month, maybe two before the beer hit shelves. I can try to find out the actual answer.

  3. [...] you enjoy Jah-va from Southern Tier?  How about Choklat?  Well Southern Tier has announced that Mokah will be out soon enough.  What is Mokah?  Well is a blend of Jah-va and Choklat.  Yep a 50/50 [...]

  4. Can’t wait–I’ve gotta stop by my favorite beer distributor to make sure he’ll be getting a few cases of this. They have a few other beers from Southern Tier, so hopefully this will make an appearance.

  5. It just came in at Beverage Central in Bayport, NY and I brought it home last night. Heavy notes of chocolate and coffee, full nose, I would have liked the foam to stick around a wee bit longer. This was a great “dessert” beer (like the Creme Brulee) and I could easily see this in an ice cream float. If you like their Creme Brulee, Young’s Double Chocolate, or Long Trail’s Coffee Stout, you’ll LOVE this! I did!

  6. [...] also popped in at Beverage Central in Bayport and picked up a yummy new release from Southern Tier called Mokah.  A craft brew with heavy notes of chocolate and coffee, this would make for an outstanding float [...]
