Widmer Brothers Cherry Oak Doppelbock coming this fall
(Portland, OR) – A store owner/rep leaked the info on Beer Advocate a couple weeks ago. Now that we are into September, I think it is safe to reveal that the brew that appeared earlier this summer at Northwest beer dinners and festivals will be sold in retail stores this fall.
Widmer Cherry Oak Doppelbock will be released in 22 oz. bottles in fancy boxed packaging. The beer is the first in a new line to appear from Widmer Brothers called the Brothers Reserve. According to the sales sheet, “This Doppelbock is fermented with both red tart and dark cherries then aged on new, toasted American Oak. The result is a dark lustrous brew with up-front malty sweetness and fruit notes, completed by caramel, dark chocolate, and toasted oak undertones.”
The beer weighs in at 9% ABV (40 IBU, 24 OG) and will be available in all markets except AL, ID, IA, MS, OK, TN, and UT. Some of those markets include but are not limited to WA, OR, CA, PA, OH, MO, and CT.

Love Dopplebocks, Cherry and Oak too!! Great way to kick off Brothers Reserve. I’ll be watching Belmont Station for these.
Thanks for the heads-up

sounds really good, you don’t see many ‘variations’ (read additions) to the doppelbock style. I am curious as to why Widmer is calling this a dark aged ALE? Doppelbocks are considered dark lagers, not ales…

I’m guessing it’s a simple oversight by the part of the press release writer but I could be wrong. Interesting to see a brewery put on a twist on a Doppelbock for once, I agree.
