Southern Star Buried Hatchet Stout gets TTB approval
[Update #2 from Twitter: "Label was approved and cans should arrive at end of month.for Buried Hatchet Stout. Hopefully start appear on shelf by 1st week in December"]
[Update #1 from Dave on 11/21 (providing much-needed clarity, thanks!): "Label approval was delaying production, but the software problem causing the delays has been resolved. The artwork is currently in the hands of the can manufacturer and plates are being made. We should recieve the cans in about 2 weeks, at which time they will begin to be filled. Bottom line is with any luck, you will see some of the cans leaking out by Christmas. We are beginning to test brew for some one-offs in the future. The first test batch is a smoked pumpkin ale that utilized 5 pumpkins in the mash (for 6 gallons) as well as being "dry pumpkined" with a pumpkin smoked for 6 hours with pecan wood. Weird, but pretty good. It will probably never see production, but hey- it's fun to play. We are still quite a ways out from releasing any more beers. The 2010 Pro-am competition is scheduled for early April, and will yield a new beer for draught release early summer 2010."]
(Conroe, TX) – Southern Star Brewing has been planning on this for a while and it may finally come to fruition: Buried Hatchet Stout in cans. The brewery was hoping to have the foreign export-style stout canned for the first time by this week but (as learned through a cryptic email) Co-Founder, Brian Hutchins, noted that money posed an obstacle. The new plan, according to a tweet from early last week, says that cans will hopefully be in stores “by the end of the year” which isn’t much of a delay. The new 12 oz. cans are expected to be produced year-round.
Label description: “You hold in your hand a stout for stout lovers. Buried Hatchet is brewed with a large quantity of brown malt reminiscent of a traditional pre-Industrial Revolution malt profile. This stout is full of robust, roasted flavors which intermingle with a bittersweet creaminess that concludes to a perfect, warming finish.”

Crisp Brown Malt
