    Images

Security, abuse, keeping the board work-friendly, etc. Too many reasons not to allow uploading of images or hotlinking.

If you have are a retailer and want a store pic/logo added to the top of your thread -OR- if you have beer labels, submit them to me by email (see top left corner of the beernews.org homepage) and I can post 'em up.

    Avatars

Allowing uploading of images is part of what caused the RateBeer hack attack. So for now, this is the only way to get an avatar next to your name...process takes LESS THAN 5 mins and is free.

    1) Go to http://gravatar.com and click 'sign me up'
    2) Enter in THE SAME EMAIL as you used to sign up here
    3) Go to your email and click the link in the new message
    4) Upload or link to an image (square ones work best)
    5) 'Crop and finish' and submit and it will appear here within 5 mins or so.

    Retailers/Distributors

    1) Each business may have his/her own thread in the beer store section where you can post anything you want like new arrivals, etc.
    2) Each time you post in your thread, it gets bumped to the top of the 'latest discussions' for everyone to see.
    3) Also, top 15 latest posts discussions will soon be linked on the main beernews.org page on the upper left sidebar so it will essentially be free text advertising.
    4) Businesses may post in a beer thread, too, to let people know something has come in stock.

If a lot of businesses become interested in this and the retail threads swamp the 'Latest Discussions', these rules may change so that they no longer appear among recent threads. Still in the experimental/trial-and-error stages here!

    Links

    Easy.

http://beernews.org/ <- Automatically a link as is or to achieve something like this: Beernews.org...

Type whatever text you want to appear as the link, highlight it, and click the URL button above the posting area.

    eBay policy

I like to keep an open mind about everything but the beer community has collectively voiced its opinion on this issue so there will be restrictions of some kind. For now, I just ask that you not post eBay links here so that arguments don't get started. This will make my life easier.

    Quoting

To do this, just click on the quote link to the right of the permalink ("#") and type UNDER all of the
"blockquote" mess in the typing area.

    Great question.

One that the first readers of beernews.wordpress.com probably asked themselves. But hey, a blog with thousands of readers started with ONE VISITOR. Just like a board with hundreds (or thousands?!) starts with ONE VISITOR.

Here is why I started the board (aside from the obvious community building aspect):

    1) Will create a reference point in which one can easily see multiple updates for any given beer about which I've written.

    2) Provides an informal medium in which I can spread more info (I don't have time to write polished stories about every beer so some will just be posted on the board).

    3) Combines useful information with new (yet basic) technology. See this thread about tagging/subscribing (RSS!) to topics so that you can get custom beer updates even when you are not on the site.

    4) For those at other sites that encounter warnings when discussing my site! You know have a safe home to discuss my updates right here.
