Rock Art – Monster Energy case could lead to trademark law reform

(Washington D.C.) – The Rock Art / Monster Energy battle over Rock Art’s Vermonster was one of the top craft beer stories of 2009 and you guys even voted it #1 story of the year. As it would turn out, it’s not quite over yet.

Rock Art Brewery issues final statement re: Vermonster vs. Monster Energy

rock art brewery(Morrisville, VT) – Rock Art Brewery issued its final statement regarding the incident with Hansen Beverage and Monster Energy Drink. No official comment could be located on the Hansen Beverage or Monster Energy Drink websites.

While I empathize with Matt’s wish for the trademark system to change, I don’t see any changes being made to trademark law soon. One of those broken things in our society that is protected with mounds of red tape. What Matt and his supporters achieved through the social media channels does, however, make for an incredible case study of how people can quickly come together to act as, perhaps, the best defense against trademark lawyers.
